Ankara: The Mysterious Interior

Poor Ankara. No one ever visits her. I guess when you've got competition like Istanbul these kinds of things happen. I can happily report that the rolling hills are lovely and the fountains and manmade waterfalls are really incredible. There are also fake goats everywhere - in parks, on hillsides- which I don't really understand, but they're still very cute! :)

People seem to have a strange aversion to English and are willing to sacrifice clarity and knowledge in order to enforce a "Turkish only" policy. There must be 100 students here from all over the world. Many have studied Turkish, but some have not at all. I've met Macedonians, Kyrgz, Georgians, Kosovoans and Russians for the first time in my life! It's amazing!

Today we went to a bread factory. Turks are serious about their bread - and their bread is seriously good! The bread on this conveyor belt reminded me of an army creeping forward very slowly. Just imagine being a bird and watching army tanks move across a plane, then you will understand how this bread was moving :) It was delicious by the way! We also had dinner at the factory. (Thank God they served more than just bread items!) There was a bread eating competition - I always find eating competitions seriously GROSS! One guy ate a loaf in like three seconds. It was insane. The other contestants were just staring at him looking shocked.
